St Lucia: Stunning Beaches, Lush Mountains and Unbelievable Marine Life

St. Lucia isn’t just another stop in the Caribbean—it’s a breathtaking masterpiece that stole my heart from the moment I arrived. While the Bahamas, Jamaica, and the US and British Virgin Islands each have their own magic, St. Lucia? It’s in a league of its own.

Picture this: powdery golden beaches lapped by turquoise waves, dramatic green mountains, and a vibrant marine world teeming with life just beneath the surface. And the food? A fiery, flavorful dance of spices and fresh local ingredients that lingers in your memory long after the last bite.

No other island has left me as awestruck—or as desperate to return

St. Lucia in August 2025 wasn’t just a trip—it was a revelation. I’d pored over blogs and Pinterest boards for months, but nothing could have prepared me for the island’s raw, unfiltered beauty. The moment I stepped off the plane at Hewanorra Airport, I knew this wasn’t going to be a typical vacation.

Did you know St. Lucia’s official languages are English and French because France and Britain fought over it 14 times? Or that it’s the only country in the world named after a real woman, Saint Lucy of Syracuse? And let’s talk about the Green Fig—a banana so starchy it tastes like a potato when cooked. St. Lucia is its top producer!

With 21 types of rum on the island, it’s no surprise Blackbeard once prowled these waters. After landing, I hopped in a cab for just 15 minutes and arrived at Coconut Bay Resort in Vieux Fort. This place isn’t just a resort—it’s a paradise playground. Nine restaurants, two massive pools, swim-up bars, a lazy river, a kids’ waterpark, and two epic waterslides had us hooked from day one. Peak life? Sipping a blue coconut from the swim-up bar while floating down the lazy river, then screaming my way down the slides. We barely wanted to leave the resort!

But the ocean called. Since it was rainy season and the seaweed was particularly stubborn that year, the hotel sweetened the deal with a free five-minute shuttle to a private beach. There, I found white sands, coconut drinks, friendly locals, and even a few tail-wagging canine companions. Snorkeling revealed a rainbow reef teeming with clams, cuttlefish, eels, and fish so vibrant they looked like they’d been painted.

We returned to that beach for two more days, uncovering new wonders each time. Then came the mud baths at the Sulfur Springs volcano—the world’s only drive-through volcano. The mud, packed with sulfur, magnesium, and calcium, is a local secret for detoxifying skin, soothing muscle pain, and healing sunburns. Pro tip: wear a dark swimsuit; the mud has a mind of its own.

Our tour (shoutout to Edmund Tours for the epic experience) also took us to Sugar Beach, the most stunning stretch of sand I’ve ever seen. Free for visitors, it’s a slice of heaven with reefs alive with cuttlefish, squid, porcupine fish, eels, and schools of tiny, technicolor fish. We swam, soaked up the sun, and then hiked to a waterfall so refreshing it felt like nature’s own spa.

Back at the resort, I took my PADI open-water certification in one of the most biodiverse reefs on Earth. The water was so clear, it felt like diving in a giant aquarium. Between dives, our guides even pointed out bat caves and surreal rock formations.

St. Lucia didn’t just charm me—it captivated my soul. Every moment, from the rum-soaked evenings to the underwater adventures, was a reminder that some places aren’t just visited; they’re experienced.
